Fundraising with flair
The Kingston Whig-Standard
from April 26, 1999
Fun and fashion are on the menu at this year's Forget Me Not Mother's Day Fashion Show Luncheon at the Harbour Restaurant.
The show, which is a fundraising event for the Alzheimer Society of Kingston, will feature the latest fashions from Bridal Creations, Cleo, Cunningham & Poupore, Expressions, Fancy That, Labour of Love, La Senza, Lindor, Gracie's, The Roundstone and Touch of Class.
This is the sixth year the show has been held to raise money for the Alzheimer Society of Kingston. Last year's show raised $8,500 and was used to support local programs and services.
This year's show will begin with a sparkling reception at 11:30 a.m., which will feature entertainment by the Paul Chabot Trio.
Tickets for the May 8 event cost $30 and are available from the Alzheimer Society at 100 Stuart St. and All Hair Alternatives, as well as all of the participating clothing stores.
In addition to the lunch and fashion show, everyone will receive a gift to take home with them and will have a chance to win one of the many raffle prizes donated by local merchants.
More than 750,000 Canadians currently suffer from Alzheimer's disease, a progressive condition in which nerve cells degenerate in the brain. Alzheimer's disease is the single most common cause of dementia. There is no known cure for this debilitating disease, which can strike adults at any age, but is most common in those over 65.
